Smash and the Canada Young Theatre Awards


There is exciting news for the Smash community—six of our incredible students, productions, and team members have been nominated for the 2025 Canada Young Theatre Awards. This recognition is a testament to the dedication, passion, and artistry that goes into every performance at Smash.

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat has been recognized in multiple categories, along with outstanding individual achievements from both performers and mentors. We are so proud to celebrate the following nominations:

  • Outstanding Lead Performance (ages 12-14) – Hunter Wilson for Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat

  • Outstanding Lead Performance (ages 18-24) – Ashley Van Nes for Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat

  • Outstanding Program Production – Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat

  • Outstanding Creative Team in a Program Production – Sheila Reader

  • Outstanding Youth Leadership – Cassandra (Coco) Reader-Romo

  • Outstanding Mentor – Cassandra (Coco) Reader-Romo

These nominations represent not only incredible individual achievements but also the strength of our community. Whether it’s through fantastic performances, creative vision, or the mentorship that helps young artists grow, Smash is dedicated to nurturing talent and bringing high-quality theatre to the stage.

We are so proud of every nominee and grateful for the hard work that led to this recognition. Congratulations to all, and thank you to the Canada Young Theatre Awards for celebrating emerging talent in theatre.
