~ What our Students and Parents Have to Say About SMASH ~

“SMASH for me was a place to go and really be myself. I showed up with zero experience and was welcomed with open arms. I could just let go and have fun with like minded people in a supportive environment that encouraged fun and learning. I made life long friends and core memories in my years at SMASH and am so grateful to Sheila and everyone else involved in every show. SMASH really set me up for life after theatre, it taught me life lessons and the importance of being in a team no matter what your role is and how to persevere and commit when things get hard. I’m so fortunate to have been a part of 3 SMASH shows and recommend it to anyone interested in theatre no matter your experience. Can’t wait to watch the shows every summer they’re always a blast!”

As both a performer and an instructor, I have had the immense pleasure of experiencing the joy, creativity and fun that Sheila and the students at SMASH bring to every single class, and show! As a performer, I have blossomed under the guidance of Sheila to try things beyond my comfort zone and become more confident in my abilities in a supportive and positive environment! Performing with the inclusive and talented students at SMASH is a highlight in my week and it always leaves a smile on my face! I have been lucky enough to meet some of my best friends in my 6 years at SMASH and I have learned skills and abilities that will stay with me for life and that have helped me succeed even beyond the realm of theatre. SMASH is my favourite place to be and I could not be luckier to have a job that is so fun, rewarding and positive and to bring up the next generation of SMASH students alongside Sheila and ensure that their experience is just as incredible and cherished as mine is to me.

SMASH was a program I decided to join when I was 9 years old. I liked to to act but didn’t like singing or dancing. That completely changed after a year at SMASH . It has changed it my life I can’t even write it out in words. I feel that I was a very shy, and quiet person before. SMASH has helped me out of my shell immensely, through acting silly, positive encouragement and constructive criticism. Sheila, our director (along with many others things) has acted as my mentor guiding me with her expertise in the arts and in life, giving me her time and patience with a loving approach, ensuring everyone feels included and featured in our shows. I think I speak for our whole cast when I write: Sheila has given me the courage to go up onstage and pursue my dreams. She has lead the way to me finding my true passion and deep affection for performing for a live audience. SMASH has helped me gain the confidence I needed in my life which I will never lose.

“I have been involved with SMASH theatre school for going on seven years and have had the opportunity to be both a cast and crew member, acting in the senior shows and helping out with the younger ones. SMASH is not only a place where we go to act but somewhere in which everyone is given the space and freedom to express themselves freely, try new things without judgement, and learn lessons that they’ll carry with them for the rest of their lives. Sheila has created a studio and a program that serve as a second home for so many of us, one which we know we can always go back to regardless of how old we are or where life has carried us. I have met so many incredible people at SMASH , many of whom have become some of my best friends with whom I hope to stay close with for many years to come. All in all, I would recommend SMASH to anyone, regardless of age or level of experience, and hope that it remains a source of joy and inspiration for the next generation of youth. “

We absolutely love SMASH in our family. Our daughter is excited all week to go to her class and the confidence she has gained from performing on the mainstage is incredible. She has learned so much, and developed some wonderful friendships.
Sheila and her team are doing an incredible job for the kids in White Rock / South Surrey. If you are not part of SMASH, you are missing out!

“Words cannot describe how much SMASH has helped me over the past eight years. I have learned so much about acting and theatre, and I will be forever thankful for that as I continue my education in theatre. SMASH is an amazing theatre company, but what makes it amazing is the people.
Ever since I joined in 2014, I have met so many talented people that I am proud to call my friends. From Shrek the Musical Jr, to Mamma Mia, SMASH has always been my home away from home. “

“SMASH is something I look forward to every week. It’s never a place where I DON’T want to go. It’s my second family. Seeing everyone there smiling and dancing and having a good time brightens up everyday if I’m feeling down. Sheila is the heart that keeps it all together, not only is she our director but she’s also our friend and I LOVE this company with all my heart.
