Meet Our Instructors

Sheila is a graduate of Mount Royal University’s Theatre Arts program in Calgary and has worked with Shakespeare in the Park, The Shakespeare Company and Alberta Theatre Projects, while also being involved in film and TV. Some of her most recent theatre credits include Blithe Spirit (Peninsula Productions), and Ten Little Indians. Her passion for musical theatre and children is obvious. She continues her passion by teaching and performing locally. Along with directing Smash Theatre’s productions of Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Shrek and Annie, she recently directed Broadway Jr. Musicals Seussical, Disney’s The Little Mermaid, Disney’s Peter Pan and My Son Pinocchio, all with over 100 children of all ages involved.

Watching the children discover their voices and unique talents of performing inspires Sheila every day.

 

Nevada McKenzie

Nevada graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a Bachelor of Education and a Bachelor of Music in Music Education, and has been teaching music to children for over fifteen years. She has directed bands and choirs of more than 60 children, as well as directed dozens of concerts throughout her career. She believes in a varied approach to music education, integrating elements of the Orff-Schulwerk Method, the Kodaly Method, and creative movement to bring students to a deeper understanding of the music.  Nevada has worked with Sheila on previous productions of Little Mermaid JR, Peter Pan JR, and My Son Pinocchio JR, as well as Lion King Kids and Beauty and the Beast JR with Smash Theatre school

 

Amber Gillespie

Amber began dancing at the young age of four. She has spent her lifetime pursuing her passion and love for dance, and is well versed in a wide variety of genres such as ballet, jazz, lyrical, contemporary, tap, hip hop, modern, street jazz, musical theatre, ballroom and latin. She has worked on such films as FOX’s ‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians’ and Warner Brother’s ‘Sucker Punch’ and was a feature dancer in the 2010 Olympic closing ceremony performing with KOS. She has trained and performed locally and internationally sharing her dance enthusiasm and expertise. She has lots of experience in competition as an independent dancer growing up in studios and also in Ballroom. She trained and competed in Las Vegas in; Foxtrot, Waltz, Tango and Viennese Walt in 2012. In addition to all her performance credits, Amber is an experienced teacher. For five years she was involved in teaching professional Ballroom and Latin at Arthur Murray testing in twelve different dance styles.
